How to Get an OWCP Schedule Award
To get an OWCP schedule award, you must first have a claim for benefits that has been approved. Once your claim is approved, you must reach maximum medical improvement (MMI). This means that your doctor has determined that your condition is not likely to improve with further treatment.
Once you have reached MMI, your doctor will perform an impairment rating. This is a medical assessment of the severity of your permanent disability. The impairment rating is based on the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment.
If your OWCP impairment rating is 5% or more, you are eligible for an OWCP schedule award. The amount of the award is based on the percentage of your impairment and the body part that is affected. You can find a schedule of awards in the FECA regulations.

To request a schedule award, you must submit a Form CA-7, Claim for Compensation, to OWCP. You must also submit a copy of your doctor’s impairment rating.
If OWCP approves your request for a schedule award, you will receive a lump-sum payment. The amount of the payment will be equal to the number of weeks of your award multiplied by your weekly compensation rate.
